Ice cream Facts

A comfort food for all ages! Ice cream, the frozen desert, is made from dairy products like milk and cream with added flavours and sugar or other sweeteners. It is refreshing to have an ice cream in the hot weather. Who can beat the cooling off with an ice cream? The decorations on it and flavour colours makes it more attractive.







Here's a fact file which will make eating an ice cream more exciting!

1) In India, 35% of ice cream produced is consumed in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

2) The most commonly used garnish for an ice cream is cherry.

3) America leads the world in the consumption of ice cream. On an average, each American eats about 50 kg of ice cream per year. New Zealand is the 2nd and Denmark is the 3rd.

4) The first frozen dessert is credited to Emperor Nero of Rome. It was a mixture of snow, nectar, fruit pulp and honey.

5) Ice cream made its first appearance in France in 1660's. Then it came to America in 1770's.

6) The first ice cream shop in the world opened in New York in 1776.

7) Some ice creams have 75% volume of air.

8) Vanilla ice cream is the most popular flavour in the world followed by chocolate flavour.

9) The most expensive flavour is saffron. Next is vanilla.

10) More ice cream is eaten on Sunday than any other day in the world.

11) The biggest ice cream in the world was made in Canada in 1988. It was made by Mike Rojani and his team. It weighed 24 tonnes. It was 45 feet tall and had 63 flavours. This record has been entered in the Guiness Book.
