  15. First Indian woman in space was Kalpana Chawla and not Sunita Williams. Kalpana went to space for first time in 1997, whereas Sunita's first time was in 2006. Both women were American citizens at the time of their respective space flights. However, while Kalpana was born in India to Indian parents, Sunita was born in the USA to an Indian father and Slovenian mother.
